Crime Stoppers Australia welcomes pre-election funding pledge from Albanese Labor government

Crime Stoppers Australia welcomes today’s announcement by the Albanese Labor Government to commit $5 million in additional Federal funding over the next three years to our operational and community engagement efforts.

Crime Stoppers Australia Chair, Ian Stewart AO APM said the announcement recognises the important role that the community-based charity continues to play in supporting police and empowering people to share what they know about unsolved crime and suspicious activity.

“With the ever-changing nature of crime and ongoing community concerns about safety, this commitment sends a strong message that the Albanese Labor Government is serious about crime and values the impact of community-led initiatives such as ours,” Mr Stewart said.

“Every minute, someone contacts Crime Stoppers in Australia, and those tip-offs assist police to make more than 80 arrests each week. That’s proof our program works – because Australians continue to trust us and share what they know,” he said.

“This funding will help maintain our national operations and strengthen our ability to lead campaigns targeting priority crime issues – including illicit drugs, organised crime and technology-enabled crime.”

Independent research confirms that every dollar invested in Crime Stoppers delivers a return of $11.15, reflecting strong value for money and measurable contribution to safer communities.

Crime Stoppers Australia welcomes this proposed funding as a strong signal of bipartisan support and follows the pre-election commitment made by the Coalition earlier this year. We look forward to working with all sides of politics to ensure Crime Stoppers continues to be a trusted, effective and community-driven initiative that helps police to solve, detect and prevent crime.

As a registered charity, we hope this commitment provides a foundation for longer-term support so we can continue delivering vital crime prevention and awareness services, encouraging anonymous reporting and support policing efforts across the country.
