Crime Stoppers Day is a reminder that every tip counts

Crime Stoppers Australia (CSA) is proud to announce the celebration of National Crime Stoppers Day on 20 August 2024, which serves as a powerful reminder of the community’s collective strength in the fight to help police solve, detect and prevent crime.

CSA Chair, Ian Stewart, said the courage of people who share vital information can make a real difference in keeping our streets, homes and neighbourhoods safe.

“Crime Stoppers Day isn’t just a date on the calendar. It’s an opportunity to encourage everyone to contribute to the safety and well-being of their community. Your actions, your information, continues to make a real impact,” said Mr Stewart.

“This year, Crime Stoppers is highlighting the crucial role that every piece of information potentially plays. Even the smallest detail could be the missing piece in an investigation puzzle that police are trying to solve,” he said.

Mr Stewart said that investigations can often be complex and sometimes results are not immediately visible to people who have shared information with Crime Stoppers.

“We understand that it’s not always obvious whether a tip has contributed to the bigger picture, but rest assured, we are reminded on a daily basis that every piece of information can be valuable and may be the key to cracking a case wide open.”

Crime Stoppers also reminds anyone who wants to share information can opt to remain anonymous. There are numerous examples where crimes are solved and criminals are caught thanks to the information received by Crime Stoppers, but for safety reasons Crime Stoppers’ involvement may not be publicly acknowledged to protect the person who has spoken up.

“Whether your tip results in a swift outcome, confirms information that may already have been known or helps police to start an investigation, we want everyone to know that your contribution matters,” said Mr Stewart.

“You can be confident that when you share what you know online or through our toll-free hotline, you’re making a difference, even if you don’t see any immediate or obvious result.”

“Thank you for being a vital part of our community’s safety net. Together, we can create a safer community for everyone.”
